Open the lab and collect the containers
After Looking for the Cat, read Aldous’s note and interact with the hunting painting in this order: hat, rifle, bear eyes, crow. Enter the hidden lab. Use the lab guide to decode the board from the room’s paintings, soldier, recipes and parrot.
Take the water and empty bottle from the crate. Open the bottle cabinet with 2451 for three more empty bottles. Press the floor box’s left/right buttons L L R R L R for matches, then light the candle. Read the book’s Elixir of Life and Death recipe. Keep an empty bottle under the relevant outlet whenever you are collecting a liquid.
Prepare oil, acid and the egg
Obtain the egg
Put five portions of water into the parrot’s bowl. After it drinks, tap the parrot and take the egg.
Collect oil
Put an empty bottle beneath the canister faucet. Add two turns from the left canister and three from the middle canister, then turn the faucet valve.
Checkpoint: The filled bottle is Oil.
Collect acid separately
Use another empty bottle. Add four turns from the right canister and one from the left, then open the faucet.
Checkpoint: The filled bottle is Acid.
Make the blood and juice
Get meat from Aldous
Put acid into the glass he holds. After he drinks, take the meat from his tongue.
Collect blood
Put a bottle under the grinder/juicer spout and the meat into the machine. Pull the handle four times.
Checkpoint: Blood in its bottle.
Grow the fruit
Give the lab plant four portions of water and one portion of blood. Take the strange fruit it produces.
Collect juice
Put an empty bottle at the machine’s outlet, insert the strange fruit and work the handle four times.
Checkpoint: Juice in its bottle.
Do not pour the plant’s four water plus one blood mixture into the elixir bottle. It is the fruit-growing step, which supplies the juice needed by the final recipe.
Mix the recipe and finish Aldous’s request
On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways to read all columns.

Put the egg in first
Select the mixing bottle and add the egg.
Add the recipe’s liquids
Add one juice, one acid, one oil and three blood, following the book’s decoded recipe.
Checkpoint: The bottle becomes the elixir.
Choose the optional parrot test now
If you want Animal testing, pour some elixir into the parrot’s bowl and let it drink before giving the entire bottle away. This is optional.
Serve the glass, then the whole bottle
Pour elixir into Aldous’s glass and continue his dialogue. His first dose starts the transformation; when he asks for more, hand him the whole bottle.
Checkpoint: The transformation finishes and Assisting in Alchemy advances.
If a click on Aldous’s glass does not register, aim at the glass rather than his body. Rusty Lake’s September 1 Steam notes say its hitbox was enlarged; check for updates before assuming that the recipe is wrong.
Keep the later elixir scene separate
